INFORMAL ACTIVITIES

-- LENTEN ALMS in the box opposite the Lady Altar towards diocesan causes of local Catholic nursing homes and the Poor in Zimbabwe and South Africa (this is a change).

-- FAMILY FAST DAY on Fri 2nd March in aid of Aid to the Church in Need. See small white envelopes at back of Church, and information on this project on noticeboard to back right of Church, to right of glass Knights board. This charity supports those Christians persecuted for their faith, from those in Sudan through sisters in China to seminarians in Eastern Europe, from distributing children’s bibles to building churches.

-- SPIRITUAL READING check out our new parish library in Annexe & daily Mass scripture reading book available for free from wall holder near porch door.

OTHER PARISH NOTICES FOR THIS WEEK

WORK ON REPAIRING THE LADY CHAPEL WINDOWS, after the storm damage, will take place during the day this Thursday. It has taken a little time to sort out quotes and insurance. Apologies for inconvenience.

MEETING FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN IN YEAR 4 & 5 who are interested in helping to set up some form of club for these youngsters, possibly on a Fri eve, building up upon last term’s Drama Club, Friday 2nd March, 6:15 pm.–7:15 pm Church Annexe.

FIRST FRIDAY HOLY HOURS for the intentions of our parish and its groups, will during Lent be replaced by our Lenten devotions. This Fri (2nd March) it will be Stations of the Cross at 7p.m., (there will be a Holy Hour at 3pm) and on Good Friday (6th April) it will be Prayer at the Tomb (8 p.m). Intentions for the following three groups will be read out at this Stations of the Cross: Knights of St. Columba; Magdala Editorial Board; Repository. Rep.s can present an intercession shortly before, If not we will provide one.
PARISH TRIP TO SEE “INTO THE GREAT SILENCE” Well reviewed fly-on-the-wall film watching Carthusian monks in their captivating search for God. Very little dialogue in the 162 minutes! At the Tricycle Theatre, 269 , Kilburn High Rd, Sunday 11th March, 3 p.m. Special price for those booking as part of our parish group by end of next weekend: £5. Please give name and £5 to one of the priests or Clergy House before 5th March. Meet at cinema 2:45 p.m or Church 2:00 pm.

1ST HOLY COMMUNION PREPARATION – Parents Meeting Tuesday 6th March (Parents only). Next children’s session Thursday 8th March. Extra evening on Thursday 22nd March.

PARISH ST PATRICK’S DAY SOCIAL Friday 23rd March. This was one of our most popular events last year. Food and live music. Tickets available after Masses next w/e.

QUIZ NIGHT-by Friends of St Mary Magdalen Fri 9th March 7.45pm for 8pm in St Mary Magdalen’s School Hall, Linacre Rd, £5 per person, max team of 6.Tickets available on the night. All welcome.

Many thanks for generous support of Little Sisters of the Poor rebuilding project of £1063.00.

Many thanks for your support of our afternoon Tea Dance which made £401 towards our schools.

LENT
ASH WEDNESDAY is this Wednesday. For able-bodied adults it is a day of fasting (at most one main meal & two snacks) and abstinence (no meat).

Masses will be celebrated at 9.30am, 12noon and 7pm, and ashes will be blessed & distributed. Please note Ashes can only be distributed at Mass, not at any other time.

TODAY
The Little Sisters of the Poor who run happy homes for the elderly will be making a brief APPEAL after all Masses for the rebuilding of St Anne’s Home, Stoke Newington.

It is possible to sign up for our small Lenten REFLECTION GROUPS by specifying the best time of the week for you on one of the beige cards and returning to back of Church or one of the priests.
At the 10:30 am Mass those children preparing for First Holy Communion will be inscribed into their First Confession preparation.

At the 12 noon Mass an adult parishioner will take par tin a Rite of Welcome in preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES Mass in the Cathedral with the Cardinal on Saturday 17th February at 3.00pm. Followed by afternoon tea in the Cathedral Hall during which there will be a grand raffle for Diocesan Pilgrimage Funds. All are very welcome. FEBRUARY EDITION OF MAGDALA the parish magazine is available after Mass. 25p

TODAY At the 10:30am, 12 noon and 6:30 p.m. Masses - there will be the Rite of Enrolment for some adults and youngsters preparing to receive the Sacraments of Baptism and/or confirmation around Easter.


TONIGHT 7:30 pm NEW YOUNG ADULTS GROUP Following our positive meeting last week we will be reflecting about modern Europe with the help of Pope John Paul II and praying with today’s Gospel, followed by a drink. If you are in your twenties (or approaching) come along and meet others.

PREPARING FOR LENT which starts Ash Wednesday 21st Feb.

· NEXT WEEKEND It will be possible to sign up for our small Lenten Reflection groups by specifying the best night of the week for you. These groups will be using excellent new diocesan booklets, using the Sun reading & Church teaching to help us reflect upon the reality of our having been baptized. All are encouraged to use the books “A Holy Nation” for daily Lenten meditation, as well as to join one of the reflection groups – which will meet just five times, during Lent.

· Lenten Meditation Books and Prayer Cards available next weekend.

· We will also be having communal Morning Prayer during Lent, at 7:45am on weekdays and 8:15am weekends.
