AT THE BACK

 Green A5 sheets(in porch) to give to a non-RC you think might be interested in learning about our faith, in a non-pressurized environment. See “Seekers group” below.

MIND THE GAP” PRO-LIFE ORIENTATION EVENING this Tuesday 25th 7:30 – 9:00 pm: another chance to share any opinions and to hear Fr Hugh, Dr Michael Jarmulowicz and Chris Hack briefly and clearly explain what’s been going on in our society concerning the undermining of human life. See front: N.B.A good alternative to Amnesty is www.justright.org.uk


MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT COFFEE MORNING- next Friday 28th September 10.00am to 12.00pm in the annexe.

VISITATION GROUP- next meeting in Annexe on Friday 28th September at 7.00pm. New members are needed. This group supports those in a range of needs


AUTUMN REFLECTION GROUPS using diocesan books reflecting upon the Pope’s recent letter of the Mass will be starting soon, for six weeks. Next week it will be possible to sign up for one particular evening.

SEEKERS GROUP for those wanting to learn about Catholicism without any commitment are invited to pop into this group. It starts on Saturday 6th October at 2 pm in Clergy House and will continue for six Saturdays. Please do let us know if you or someone you know might like to join this group, or take one of the white A4 “Invitation sheets” from the back to pop through someone’s letterbox.

CHILDREN AT NON-RC SCHOOLS who have not received their First Holy Communion, and are in Year 2 (or equivalent) or above need to have parents contact Clergy House.

GETTING MARRIED? If you live in the parish you should give us six months notice. If you are looking for a preparation course before Christmas please contact Clergy Ho. ASAP.

POSSIBLE PARENTAL PREPARATION FOR NEXT SUNDAY’S CHILDREN’S LITURGY: Suggest some specific intentions for your child to pray for, and consider praying with them for those intentions.

ONE-OFF EVENTS IN OCTOBER

Friday 5th RACE NIGHT at our local RISING SUN pub in aid of the schools fund. Tickets available from next week.

Saturday 13th PARISH DAY PILGRIMAGE TO WALSINGHAM cost £21 /person (including travel, entry to Abbey grounds & a hot meal) U-16 yr olds £10. 90th anniversary of final Fatima apparition. Please return yellow slips by next weekend.

Sunday 14th NEW PARISHIONERS (and old), especially those who have joined our community in the last two years are invited for a coffee after the 10:30 am (i.e. 11:15) on Sunday 14th October. They will be especially prayed for at that Mass, and at the 12 noon.

Saturday 27th CATECHISTS (and potential ones) AND GROUP LEADERS are warmly invited and encouraged to join a specially organized retreat day for them with the director of Birmingham’s Maryvale Institute on Sat 27th October at Ealing Abbey.


SECONDARY SCHOOL TRANSFER

Parents should now phone Clergy House between 10 and 2 on a weekday, for a very brief interview for parent and child. The last interview session will be Tuesday 16th October as this will be the last time Fr Hugh will be available. It will not be possible to sign forms after this date.

This weekend MEMBERS OF PARISH FORUM will be outside Sun Mass to meet parishioners.

This weekend our Special Needs group will be holding a cake sale after morning Masses.

This Friday the junior School will join us for the 9:30 am Mass., to begin their term and celebrate “peaceoneday” day. Cf. www.peaceoneday.org.

Secondary School Transfer- From this Thursday afternoon Fr Hugh will start signing secondary school application forms, and continue over the next few weeks at various times. The last interview session will be Tuesday 16th October. Please phone Clergy house, and make sure you bring your child and all forms with you. We are aware that this can be a nerve-racking process. It can be helpful to read admissions’ criteria, to be realistic and to ask yourself where will your child flourish. Also the diocese’s latest guide is available at www.rcdow.org.uk. See blue A4 sheet (v.2) at back for local Open Evenings, & Bishop’s yellow A5 letter.


GROUP LEADERS

 We are preparing a booklet for new parishioners. We would be very grateful if you could submit a paragraph describing your group to Brigid Hegarty through Clergy House.

 If you have leaders working with U-18 year olds we would be very grateful if you could ask them to make sure clergy house has their up to date address.

-- YOUTH CLUB for 11-13yr olds (going on 14) year olds, Year Seven and Eight will start next Fri (21st ) 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at the infant Convent. NEW VOLUNTEER LEADERS ARE NEEDED. This has proven to be a great lead-up to confirmation preparation in Year 9.

All those who wish to come to these clubs need to fill out one of the new membership forms and hand in before the first night on which they arrive.

Parents of children in both clubs will be asked to help a little. A rota will be available on the 1st evening of each club Parents of Y4 children: let us know if you would like to help develop something for Y4’s!

Fr. Joseph Sagayarajan leaves us this w/e We thank him very much for all his graceful work amongst us, including the colour Church decorations he supplied (see the back of our sanctuary!) Please pray for his continuing studies in Paris.

Chris Hack’s start at Allen Hall seminary has been delayed by two weeks. So we will see him again here during this month!

This means that we exceeded the target set in 2002 of £258,254.00 by £ 898.29.
This concludes the Building Fund appeal documentation. Everyone can be v satisfied with the result.

YOUTH CLUBS -- Our two clubs are each moving their lower age limit up one year. So we will have a Y7-8 club - this will meet on Fri.s (i.e not TueS.s!). And we will have a Y5Y6 club (staying on Thursdays and run for first half-term of this term). Parents of children in both clubs will be asked to help a little. A rota will be available on the 1st evening of each club Parents of Y4 children: let us know if you would like to help develop something for Y4’s!
