Water Company Policy – Please sign electronic petition in order to save us money!

The Water Companies are ignoring churches charitable status and starting to charge Churches for the amount of area (i.e. roofs and car parks) that will collect rainwater and discharge it into the sewer network. This will effectively raise most churches water bills by hundreds if not thousands of pounds. There is an online government petition that you can register on which, apparently, needs at least 15,000 to be noticed!

Many thanks to all who supported our beautiful liturgy and fun BBQ for our Feast Day celebration last Sunday –especially our social events committee, the Rising Sun and those who came! Great worship of God and great food.

POPE BENEDICT – LAST THURS IN SYDNEY HARBOUR TOWARDS 500,000
“Standing before me I see a vibrant image of the universal Church. The variety of nations and cultures from which you hail shows that indeed Christ’s Good News is for everyone; it has reached the ends of the earth. Yet I know too that a good number of you are still seeking a spiritual homeland. Some of you, most welcome among us, are not Catholic or Christian. Others of you perhaps hover at the edge of parish and Church life. To you I wish to offer encouragement: step forward into Christ’s loving embrace; recognize the Church as your home. No one need remain on the outside, for from the day of Pentecost the Church has been one and universal.”

 WEDDING PAPERWORK If you may need this started over the next year and live in the parish please come to the Annexe next Saturday at 4 pm.

 Calling PARENTS OF CHILDREN AT NON-CATHOLIC SCHOOLS aged seven upwards who are hoping to receive First Holy communion in 2009. Please give details to one of the priests.

STOP PRESS: The Embryology Bill has been delayed until after the summer recess. There is wide speculation in the national media that this is because of the upcoming Glasgow East by-election where there is a big Catholic population.

The effects of proposed amendments, were they to be voted in, would include:
• reducing medical scrutiny of abortion from two doctors to one;
• abolishing the need for any legal grounds for abortion up to 24 weeks;
• allowing nurses and midwives to carry out an abortion;
• extending locations where abortion can take place to include doctors’ surgeries, local health centres, school sick rooms etc.;
• up to a 2 year prison sentence for any pro-life counselling group which “misled” expectant mothers by its adverts.

DRESS IN CHURCH: As the weather gets hotter, it can be a great idea to go to the Park after Mass. We would ask all to keep the distinction in terms of dress. More modest dress during the Sacred Liturgy than what might be worn for outdoor recreation is one of the symbolic ways we help each other all to concentrate on the coming of Christ for us through sacramental signs and symbols. As a sign says outside a Church in Schio, Italy: “The body has its own language too!” Thank you.

Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill ‘progress’: At the end of the “committee stage” pro-abortion MPs have just tabled amendments to the Abortion Act via the HFE bill. These would move us towards Abortion-on-demand before 24 weeks. This would of course be just yet another step in the instrumentalization of human life to which the dominant culture of our land is increasingly attached. As ever the crucified Christ in his Church, out of love for all men and women of whatever age and strength, rejects such a move and witnesses to the truth about love amidst the increasing decadence of our political and media culture. We should be confident that history and His Father will vindicate this stand. So please ask our M.P. to vote against these amendments.

OUTREACH NO.2: We are considering putting up a stand-alone notice board outside the church, near the pavement to develop the accessibility of our notice space, a service to all, and perhaps reaching those not necessarily think of actually coming into the church.
