Bible Study at St Mary Magdalen’s Church -
How is your prayer life? Do you find it a one-sided conversation and never seem to hear God speaking? Well many great saints have said that the Bible is ‘a love letter from God’. God can speak to us in many ways, but one very important way is through sacred scripture. St Jerome in the 5th Century said “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ”. The Second Vatican Council in 1965 wrote ‘we speak to Him when we pray; we hear Him when we read the Scriptures’
In December we will start a new liturgical year (Year A of the three yearly cycle), and on most Sundays the Gospel readings will be taken from the Gospel of St Matthew. By studying the Gospel in detail, you can be sure that when you hear the text being proclaimed at Mass it will come alive and you will be much better able to hear what God is trying to say to you that day.

Last year a small group went through the 14 historical books of the Bible, from Genesis through to Acts, with rave reviews being received. In this study you will be guaranteed to have many ‘wow’ moments when things Jesus said and did suddenly become clear and fit together, but more importantly they will also change you and your life!
This in-depth study of the Gospel of St Matthew will be held on Tuesday evenings 7.30pm -8.30ish. Starting on 21st September for 24 weeks to 12th April. The group will be led by Deacon Michael Jarmulowicz using the “ Matthew: The King and His Kingdom” study guide published by Ascension Press. All are welcome. See posters / leaflets at the back of church.

GETTING INTO PAPAL EVENTS
The Ministry of Defence is responsible for the security at the various papal events and have informed us that
1. Every pilgrim attending one of the papal visit events (Beatification in Birmingham or Hyde Park) MUST have a photo ID (Passport, Bus pass etc)
2. Every Pilgrim MUST know the name of their pilgrim leader. For the beatification in Birmingham this will be Deacon Michael Jarmulowicz; for the Hyde Park event it is Fr Hugh MacKenzie.
3. Every pilgrim will be issued with a Pilgrim Pack, a Pilgrim Pass (Paper ticket) and Pilgrim band (Rubber wristband). The passes and wristbands will be colour coded and numbered.
4. The pilgrim packs will issued before the events (we are still awaiting their arrival).
5. The wristbands and tickets WILL BE ISSUED ON THE DAY; this will be on the coach to Birmingham or at the agreed meeting point for Hyde Park. We have been told that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES can the passes and wristbands be given out before the day.

Further information on travel arrangements etc will be given out as soon as we know them.
Information leaflets about what to bring etc are available for those allocated places, at the back of the church
