Ninth Sunday of the Year A 6th March 2011
TODAY
• The penultimate School Building Fund: Monthly collection after all masses
• 10:30 Mass: includes the Rite of Acceptance for First Confession
• 6:30 pm Mass our confirmation candidates will be celebrating the rite of commitment as they continue to prepare for their confirmation in June.

NEXT SUNDAY- Cake Sale World Youth Day fundraising – cake sale will be held after Sunday Morning Masses next weekend in the Annexe – organised by our post confirmation youth group.
Also – Tony Thomas will be collecting from those who kindly sponsored his run this Sun

Altar Servers practice, Team K (Sun 6:30 pm) initially scheduled for next Saturday at 2 pm is being rescheduled due to a memorial Mass.

TALK HERE ON NEWMAN: Friday 25th March at 7.30pm, annexe. Dr Andrew Nash will give a beautifully illustrated talk on the life of John Henry Newman, whom Pope Benedict beatified in Birmingham last September. Everybody welcome. Afterwards there will be coffee and cake. £3 donation, with funds going to the work of the Maryvale Institute, which has helped the catechesis of our parish very much.

LENT
ASH WEDNESDAY is this Wednesday. For able-bodied adults it is a day of fasting (at most one main meal & two snacks) and abstinence (no meat).
Masses will be celebrated at 9.30am, 12noon and 7pm, and ashes will be blessed & distributed. Please note Ashes can only be distributed at Mass, not at any other time.
TAKING THE PLEDGE – Ash Wednesday – 8 p.m.
If you would like to give up alcohol for Lent in a way that links you with a group of people in solidarity with and in prayer for those who suffer from alcohol or drug addition and other abuses of the body, then join Fr Hugh / Fr Kieran and others on Ash Wednesday at 7.30pm in the Church for 20 mins to take the Pioneers’ Lenten Pledge. This is a commitment to abstain from all intoxicating drink, to recite a daily prayer, to wear the pioneer emblem.

 Each Fri. evening there will be Stations of the Cross 7pm.

The diocesan St John Southworth Fund assists homeless, migrants and refugees, youth education, disability support, pastoral support for the elderly, children and various other projects
And Friends of the Holy Land - to provide spiritual, moral and financial support for the suffering Christian Community in the Holy Land cf. www.friendsoftheholyland.org.uk
