Parish Update

• Westminster Year Book for 2012 and New Sunday Roman Missal – now available in the Repository.

• SPUC – (Society for the Protection of unborn children) are holding its annual appeal this weekend. In common with the Catholic Church, SPUC defends and upholds the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. Please give generously to this very worthy cause.

New Year’s Resolution: Volunteer for CAFOD! Do you have good public speaking skills and want to help tackle poverty and injustice? CAFOD needs volunteers to speak in parishes about its work in the developing world. Come to “Understanding CAFOD” Day on Saturday, 21 January to learn how to get involved. Vocations Discernment Group: The next meeting of the group for young adults (18-30’s) is on Friday 27 January with a talk by Bishop John Sherrington, on “Called to Serve”. 7-9pm in the Hinsley Room, Morpeth Terrace next to Westminster Cathedral. Sympathy to Solidarity - a day of reflection for all People involved in action on homelessness – Alastair Murray & team Saturday 28th January 11am-4pm 114, Mount Street W1K 3AH www.mountstreet.info 020-7495-1673 In preparation for Homelessness Sunday (29th January 2012), this workshop will be suitable for anyone who already works in a paid or voluntary capacity with homeless people, and also for all those who would like to do so. It takes as its starting point “contemplation grounded in reality” and together we will explore what it means to be committed to social justice and Gospel values in our daily living and volunteering.


Come and See - Day for Women discerning a Call to Religious Life. A chance for women (aged 20-40) to learn more about consecrated life, and to meet a variety of religious and others who are discerning this vocation. Celebration of Our Lady of Lourdes: with Anointing of the Sick, on Saturday 11th February 2012 at 2.00 pm. The Archbishop will be the Chief Celebrant, at the annual Mass in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes, in the Cathedral. The Sacrament of the Sick will be administered during the Mass by the Archbishop, Auxiliary Bishops and Priests who will be concelebrating the Mass. Please contact the parish office with your details if you would like to attend this Mass.


Youth of the Parish: if you are young person or a young adult, you may be interested in coming along to the Flame Congress, 24 March 2012 in Wembley. Many thousands of young Catholics are expected to attend. There will be local and international speakers to help us grow in the faith, as well as music and an atmosphere of joy and participation. The Youth Support Team (YST) and the Diocesan Youth Chaplain, Fr. David Reilly, want to encourage young people in year 10 and above and young adults in parish groups to attend this event. St. Joseph’s Pastoral Centre has responsibility for the support of people with learning disabilities. We work with families in the parishes of the Diocese and at a Centre mainly for adults in Hendon.
