Thirteenth Sunday of the Year 1st July 2012
PARISH UPDATE Peter’s Pence Collection at all Masses this weekend. Readers and Eucharistic Ministers. Please collect new rotas from the sacristy this week as changes have had to be made to the rotas issued last weekend. Padre Pio Prayer Group will meet in the Annexe on Thursday 5th July at 8.00pm for Mass, rosary and prayers for the sick. All are welcome. Terrible Twos. You might not know this but if your little bundle of joy is driving you mad during Mass, the Annexe is open if you’d like a little respite. There is a speaker in there so you can hear Mass but you won’t be able to see the priest…thank Heaven for small mercies. Seekers/ Enquires. Do you know of anyone interested in becoming a Catholic? Are you, or do you know, an adult who was baptised, but was never confirmed? Do you know of anyone who has stopped practicing their faith, but who may be persuaded to return? Are you a regular practicing Catholic who just wishes to understand their faith a bit better? If the answer is ‘Yes’ to any question, we are holding a series of ‘seekers’ meetings where any questions you may have can be asked and answered. All are welcome. CARITAS, the new Diocesan agency established to address the challenges of social exclusion and poverty, is looking for volunteers to assist with mapping the good works going on already in our parishes and schools and to identify other areas of need in the Diocese that CARITAS could help with. This features new and well-known pictures by Catholic artist Elizabeth Wang and takes place at the French Church, 5 Leicester Place, WC2H 7BX from 18th June to 16th September. The church is open daily from 9am to 9pm. Everyone is welcome. As part of the exhibition there is an event on Saturday 8th September from 2pm-4pm which will include a time of prayer, reflection, a guided meditation on each of the images, and the celebration of Holy Mass. Next meeting for young adults (18-30’s) is on Friday 22 June, 7-9pm in the Hinsley Room, Morpeth Terrace next to Westminster Cathedral, with a talk by Lawrence Maxwell Stuart on “Discerning as a pilgrim”. Lawrence recently walked from the UK to Jerusalem on a pilgrimage which has changed his life. It will focus on faith, disability and sport. Professor John Swinton, Prof David Jones and Baroness Sheila Hollins and Dr Pia Matthews are all speaking alongside Archbishop Peter Smith. We are hoping to attract 300 people to the conference and are currently securing other key speakers from the world of sport and disability theology. The conference will be a springboard for ongoing reflection and pastoral engagement with people with disabilities in faith communities.
